Community Cohesion
In May 2006, Professor Ted Cantle and his team at The Institute of Community Cohesion produced a report on the efforts to build community cohesion in Oldham, 5 years after the civil disturbances. Their report is available below.
Review of Community Cohesion in Oldham
"The Oldham Partnership welcomes the findings of the report from Professor Cantle and his colleagues. The report highlights the positive progress that Oldham has made in the last 5 years, and demonstrates the success we have experienced around community engagement, community cohesion, and the learning agenda. Many of these areas are now being used as national examples of best practice.
The recommendations within the report outline a clear direction of travel for Oldham. We will use the findings to accelerate the progress that is being made, and maintain our focus on issues which affect community cohesion."

Chair, Oldham Partnership Executive
As part of Oldham's response to the Cantle Review, a public conference took place on Saturday 17th March 2007 in which local residents were encouraged to get involved in building good community relations. An overview of the event is available below. The views of local people gathered at the event will be used to inform Oldham's Community Cohesion Strategy, which will be Oldham's formal response to the Cantle Review.
