Summer in Oldham

The council and a range of partners have joined forces to put together a summer activities programme to ensure the summer holidays are fun-packed for Oldham’s children and young people. The programme will include lots of ways to keep little ones and not-so-little ones amused, entertained and inspired and will be backed by a big marketing campaign.

We’ll bring you more information soon.

Make a splash with free swimming lessons in Oldham

To complement the free swimming sessions which are now available for over 60s and under 18s, partners in Oldham have got together to offer free swimming lessons for non-swimmers between the ages of 16 and 25. The first lessons, provided by Oldham Community Leisure and funded by Oldham Partnership, will take place later this month.

We hope to see more Oldhamers taking up swimming to keep active and boost their health. This is a great example of the power of partnership and shows what can be achieved when we work together. More in the next newsletter.

Oldham in Profile available now

Oldham in Profile is a snapshot of Oldham. It gives current statistics and how Oldham is performing compared with national, regional and sub-regional information so we can see a picture of Oldham’s successes and identify areas for improvement. This year’s edition has just been published.

You can find an electronic copy of Oldham in Profile in our key documents library, or contact Ian Flanagan Smith for a hard copy.

A new compact

Oldham’s new compact was launched at the voluntary sector fair in May. The compact is a set of principles for how the voluntary, community and faith sector and the statutory sector, which includes the council, police and NHS Oldham, will work together.

Paul Barasi from Compact Voice launched the Oldham compact. Paul encouraged 30 of the audience to sign up to champion the compact in their organisations, and then six representatives from partner organisations, including Oldham Partnership’s chair Nick Brown, said a few words about why the compact is important to them.

Electronic copies of the compact and a summary version are available on the partnership website, or you can contact VAO on 633 6222 for a hard copy.

Thanks to everyone involved in developing the compact.
