Oldham Partnership's prospectus
What is the prospectus?
Last year, the partnership anticipated that the current climate of recession and public funding cuts would challenge our ability to achieve all of our aims for Oldham. The sustainable community strategy gives us a long-term plan, and ideally we would press on now to deliver all the plans set out in that document. However, for the time being, that isn’t possible, so we need to use all of our funding and resources where they will have the greatest impact.
So, the prospectus contains our ‘must dos’; a limited number of carefully chosen initiatives that we simply must deliver.
The prospectus was agreed by the Oldham Partnership’s public service board.
What are the prospectus priorities?
They are
1.Towards a university town
This priority will ensure we will establish Oldham as Greater Manchester's fourth university town. This priority will:
•Address worklessness
•Improve skills and educational attainment
2.Great places to live
This priority is about making Oldham a place or choice with high quality neighbourhoods. Through this priority we will:
•Reduce crime
•Improve street cleanliness
•Provide positive activities for young people
3.Healthy lives
This priority commits the partnership to work together to encourage and support local people to have healthier and more fulfilling lives. This priority will:
•Encourage more people to be more active, more often
•Reducing the harm done by alcohol
•Helping people to be empowered; to increase their independence and aspirations
