Voluntary sector fair – 19th May, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham

Come along to Oldham’s voluntary sector fair. The fair is on from 2pm, when the Worshipful Mayor of Oldham will open it, until 6.45pm. There are over 50 organisations attending and activities include face painting, balloon modelling, a display of Thai kick boxing, a demonstration of oil and water based painting, Wii fit and the chance to look round a fire engine and rapid response vehicle. If you still want something a bit different then there is a poetry workshop called ‘The Triplet Challenge’.

The fair will see the official launch of Oldham’s Compact at 4pm this will commence with a speech by Paul Barasi from the national organisation for the Compact.

The closing ceremony will begin at 6pm and will culminate in a performance by Nrtya Jyoti dance troupe.

mwmmusic is coming to Oldham - 9th May, Grange Arts Centre

On Saturday 9th May Muslim Women Music Makers international tour, mwmmusic is coming to Oldham! East flirts with west in a combination of world, fusion, urban and devotional music. Artists are rooted in Kurdish, Iranian, Moroccan, Palestinian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani heritage, but embrace UK, Danish and also Dutch influences and identities.

The Festival of Diversity is hosting this tour with the aim to build a long term community arts project with Muslim Women in Oldham. To kick start the project there will be an artist talk before the event on Saturday at 5pm and then on the following day there will be a workshop on the Poem of the Cloak. Artists from the tour will be attending the workshops as participants. The workshops will take place at Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Sunday 10th May 11 – 2pm.
